About this shrine...

........ In 1870's the priests of the Catholic church, bought the wast land in Panagudi. Some years later, a chariot with bullocks carried a statue of St.Joseph through this way. The bulls were suddenly, stopped in this place and not moved then after. So the Christians of this place joined with Fr. Gregory to rise a church in honor of St.Joseph the husband of virgin Mary and the foster father of Jesus. The statue is kept in this church.
........ St.Joseph's church was renovated through 1891 to 1892. Panagudi was established as an independent parish on 24th December 1939. In 1970's Fr. Sengol Mani built a new church with more facilities. The devotion to St.Joseph is growing day by day. The people from distance places are coming to venerate St.Joseph. This parish Shrine is belongs to Catholic Diocese of Tuticorin. Contact: stjosephshrine@gmail.com
